Rumney Rocks is a world-class sport climbing destination in New Hampshire, located on the slopes of Rattlesnake Mountain within the White Mountain National Forest. It's known for its unique schist rock, a wide variety of routes for all skill levels, and its beautiful setting. Due to its popularity, the area can be crowded on weekends, so weekdays are often a more relaxed experience. Be prepared to pay a daily or annual fee for parking, and always practice good crag etiquette, which includes wearing a helmet.

Getting there 

  • From Interstate 93, take exit 26 in Plymouth.

  • Follow Route 25 west for about 2.5 miles.

  • Turn right at the flashing yellow light onto Main Street.

  • Turn left onto Buffalo Road.

  • The parking lots for Rumney Rocks will be on your right.

Other tips 

  • Pack essentials: A 20-30L pack with a waist strap, a climbing helmet, harness, and a hard shell jacket are recommended for a day of climbing.

  • Mental and physical challenge: Climbers often describe the sport as a "chess game" that challenges both the mind and body.

  • Unique rock: The rock at Rumney is unique, and the routes are well-bolted.

  • Amenities: The Forest Service has upgraded parking lots and added toilet facilities in the area.
